"Dinner Tree and Helping Hand" for Parishioners in Need
St. Barnabas parishioners are committed to helping other members of the parish community who may find themselves in need, whether due to an accident, illness, death in the family, or other cause.
The St. Barnabas Women’s Club coordinates a list of volunteers willing to be called to prepare food or provide other help for parish families facing emergency needs. Volunteers may specify what type of help they are willing to provide.
To ensure your name is part of the “Helping Hand and Dinner Tree,” please contact Marie Ruff at the parish office, (773) 779-1166. If you are in need of help, or know of another who may be in need of a helping hand, please contact Marie Ruff at the parish office, (773) 779-1166, who will coordinate with the Women’s Club.
Ministers to the Sick, Homebound and Nursing Homes
Homebound Ministry volunteers bring the Eucharist to parishioners who are unable to attend Mass, whether they are homebound, or in hospitals or nursing homes. Bringing the Eucharist to someone unable to attend Mass reinforces his or her connection to the St. Barnabas Parish community, and helps communicate that the parish community is concerned about and is praying for him or her. Ministers also provide comfort and company through extended visits and by bringing reading materials including the bulletin and Sunday readings and reflections.
If you would like to volunteer for this Ministry, no special skills or talents are required, but a special concern for the sick and a desire to bring comfort to the lonely and anxious are beneficial. More volunteers are needed and are welcome. For more information and to volunteer, please contact Deacon Larry Conway, 773-233-4228.
***If one of your family members is in the hospital or confined at home or in a nursing home, and would like Communion or a pastoral visit, please call the rectory, 773-779-1166, or Deacon Larry Conway, 773-233-4228. Due to various privacy laws, doctors and staff can no longer notify the parish when a parishioner is hospitalized or confined.***
