A
convert to Catholicism, Turkish born Meltem Aktas has embraced the art
of iconography as part of our ancient spiritual tradition. She will
recount the origin of icons and their troubled history, the role of this
art in the liturgy of the community and how to interpret the visual elements.
The ultimate purpose of the icons is an encounter with the invisible God
through the image in an ancient form of quiet, meditative prayer.
