Who's Who Among America's Teachers

"Learning is more meaningful when students can make connections to real life experiences and their own prior knowledge."

Mrs. Tomasek

Illinois State University, B.S.
St. Xavier University, M.A.

"Although I believe any philosophy should be an ongoing work, there are a few points to which I hold fast.  In my classroom, I want each student to be a positive learner and become a productive global citizen.  Knowing that each child learns in a variety of ways, I will apply various teaching methods including student-led learning, as well as differentiated instruction.  Because of this, I expect parents and administrators to take an active role in enabling each student to become a successful individual that the community of St. Barnabas would admire."

Sixth Grade

Mrs. Duffner

"As an educator, it is my responsibility to guide the minds of students to find the meaning of learning in their own unique way. This could be accomplished by expressing their thoughts through an essay, exploring their creativity during a science lab, or demonstrating their logic by explaining a complicated math problem. No matter what path is taken, each student should enjoy this process and always find importance in the need for continual learning. As their teacher I vow to maintain a level of perpetual learning and to always be committed to the future success of my students."

Mrs. Thomas

"In my classroom, I strive to provide a welcoming environment where students can feel safe and secure. I try to offer a variety of experiences for a diverse population of students with a diversity of learning styles and abilities. I also strive to help students achieve success to the best of their abilities and instill in all of my students an enthusiasm for learning that will make them lifelong learners. I try to model reverence, respect, and responsibility toward all of God’s creation and teach my students to do so as well."

Seventh Grade

Ms. Cullina

University of Notre Dame, B.A.

Outstanding Teaching Award from St. Ignatius College Prep H.S.

"Teaching requires that we recognize that “one size does not fit all.” The different learning styles and strengths of each student must be identified and addressed, through the use of a variety of teaching methods and activities. Also, the skills and concepts being taught must be connected to the students’ real world experiences, so that the learning is a continuing process, building from year to year."

Mrs. Gerk

St. Xavier University, B.A.

Three Outstanding Teaching Awards from St. Ignatius College Prep H.S., Mt. Carmel Teaching Award, Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers

"Respect and responsibility are necessary for both teacher and student. Creativity and discovery are important in all aspects of learning. Parents and teachers should work together to support and encourage students."

Eighth Grade

Mrs. Shader

Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers

Ms. Broderick

St. Joseph's College, B.A.

"In my classroom, I foster the opportunity to study things that are meaningful and relevant to one's life and interests.  Working with junior high students, I attempt to focus on academic and character development while providing stimulating and challenging curriculum.  One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students and create life-long learners."
