Strategic Plan

The following is an update as to where we are on the progress of our Five Year Strategic Plan.

DEMOGRAPHICS/MARKETING

Our initial goals of developing a 36-month marketing plan and increasing enrollment have been achieved.  A marketing committee was assembled and met to exchange ideas, implement concepts and generally, execute a plan of action to recruit new families.

Denise Stillman composed a Recruitment Plan and established a budget.  The open houses held in the 2010-2011 school year were successful and after graduating a class of 56, our enrollment numbers are still only down 13 from last year.  We also consider this early in our enrollment period so that number should improve.

The marketing committee has also applied new techniques to reach prospective families and look forward to a successful 2011-2012 school year.

PROGRAMS/CURRICULUM
Sister Julie, Director of Religious Education, and Principal Lenore Barnes, have included weekly and grade-level masses and parish family masses in 2011-2012 school calendar.  Student involvement increases with grade level.

Under the direction of two part-time counselors, the Character Education Program will be introduced to students, parents and staff this coming fall.  The counselors working with the program will be on staff 40 hours per week.  Watch the fall newsletters for more information.

All school, grade level and team level faculty meetings are held regularly on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:30 pm.  These meetings address curriculum, technology and professional growth issues.

A team of teachers and a representative from the School Board have met and revised the current Parent Handbook.  Policies within the handbook are based on Archdiocesan guidelines, policies and regulations.

The Spanish and Music programs will have an improved curriculum for the 2011-2012 school year.

TECHNOLOGY
All teachers received new Apple laptop computers this year, which will enable them to explore new resources for use in the upcoming school year.  Teachers were provided an in-service day for training on internet teaching resources.

Most teachers use the Smart Boards and commented on the ease of their use.  Several teachers requested and were given a LCD projector for their classroom, which are used on a regular basis.

St. Barnabas School has just installed Office 2011 on all lab computers, teacher laptops, and staff computers.  Students will be trained on the new Office products during the 2011-2012 school year.

St Barnabas Technology Department has created a curriculum comparative with other schools within the Archdiocese.  This will be implemented this coming school year.

FACILITIES AND GROUNDS
St. Barnabas School is presently taking bids on the construction of a new playground facility.  The selection process should be completed in the near future.

Security cameras at the Early Childhood Center were voted down by the teaching staff.  Because of the door placement, the cameras would not be effective in alerting teachers as to who is at the door.

A handicap ramp for the gym entrance was ordered and delivered.  However, the ramp did not work out. Other ramps are currently being explored for purchase.

June, 2011

St. Barnabas adopted a strategic 5 year plan begining in the 2010-2011 school year which outlines its hopes and dreams for the coming years.  The plan was based on the results of a comprehensive survey completed by the parents of St. Barnabas students.
