Principal Welcome Letter

                               Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!  I am honored to welcome you to St. Barnabas School and to share with you some of the outstanding programs and attributes that make St. Barnabas a truly exceptional school.

St. Barnabas offers a variety of programs that engage students in learning and promote academic exploration.  Our curriculum is robust and includes unique offerings such as Music, Art, Spanish, Physical Education and Technology classes, which enhance our core curriculum and encourage our students to become well-rounded individuals. Furthermore, because of the dedication and support of our parents, we are able to offer an endless amount of after-school enrichment opportunities for our students including athletic programs, Fine Arts productions, and a host of co-curricular clubs.

At St. Barnabas we set high academic expectations for all of our students and provide a nurturing environment along with numerous levels of support to ensure that our students are successful.  Our students consistently earn high scores on standardized tests and are admitted to their first-choice high school. We understand how important technology is in our 21st Century World. We are in our third year of a 1:1 iPad program for our junior high students which is moving forward successfully. We are excited about this opportunity to help our students excel further in the classroom and to teach them how to become responsible digital citizens.

While on the topic of 21st Century Learning, two years ago St. Barnabas began incorporating 21st century personalized learning practices to meet the individual needs of students. In order to support students becoming successful adults in the modern workplace, St. Barnabas has embraced elements of the P21 Framework, including the 4 Cs: Communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. This year, the school incorporated another 21st century classrooms with flexible seating options and interactive whiteboard tables, among other features. Since the 2017, elements of 21st Century Learning and flexible seating have been incorporated into a growing number of additional classrooms.

We recognize that our students are unique individuals with different learning needs. Project Match, a curriculum program exclusive to St. Barnabas, is designed to modify and differentiate instruction for different types of learners, clustering students homogeneously for instruction in Math and Reading.

Our Catholic Identity is at the heart of our school. We share our faith through daily religion class, weekly mass, sacrament preparation, and through various service-learning projects, including our annual All-School Service Day. Our student’s journey with Christ is of utmost importance to us.

Our school would not be what it is without our teachers; they are remarkable! St. Barnabas teachers are committed to the academic, spiritual, and emotional growth of each student. On a daily basis they model the values of Respect, Reverence, and Responsibility, which are at the heart of our school culture. They have helped to create a caring and supportive school community that is rooted in the Catholic faith, one in which every student feels valued and respected.

Please visit our website or school newsletter for more information about our school. We encourage you to attend our Family Mass at 10 am on Sunday, January 27, 2019 followed by our school Open House from 11 am-12:30 pm for a closer look at St. Barnabas School.

Warmest Regards,
