St. Barnabas FSA
After-School Enrichment Program

The St. Barnabas After School Enrichment Program is looking for individuals to teach students something that they love.  We'd like to offer St. Barnabas students an opportunity to learn a new hobby or skill in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.  You decide the age group or grade level that you would like to teach, the day and how many weeks you are available.  If you are interested in sharing your talents with others click here for more information.  Contact Heather Cleveland at (773)779-1179 or mhcleveland@ameritech.net with any questions.

Some of the classes that have been offered in the past include:

CARDMAKING

Have fun creating cards for all occasions using rubberstamps and decorative papers.

CHESS

We’ll look at what to do to win the game—and what not to do! We’ll examine some openings, checkmate positions, and pawn promotions. And we’ll play some practice games. Students should already know how chess pieces move. Chess sets will be provided.

Circus Math

Do you like games, prizes, and spending time with your friends? Then, come one come all and step right up to Circus Math! We SUBTRACT boredom and ADD fun which EQUALS an entertaining yet educational afternoon for all!

Cooking

Make all sorts of goodies.  Measure, pour, stir and yum!  Enjoy the results with this hands-on activity for the little ones.  Sweet snacks, as well as more nutritious foods, will be made.

KNITTING

If you've been looking for a hobby to carry you through the winter, now is the time to learn a new needle craft – knitting! Once the basics are learned, your creations are limitless. You will learn the basic stitches and how to read a pattern.

Speech Competition

Help your student to be comfortable in front of their peers during oral presentations.  This course includes a series of workshops using improvisational games and practice of oral presentations.  It was developed by instructors with backgrounds in Speech, Theater, and Literature.  The goal of the course is to prepare students to recite a memorized poem, short story, or monologue for judging.  The competition takes place during the last session where all students receive ribbons, and trophies are awarded to those who take the top score in each category.  What a great way for older students to prepare for future mandatory speech classes in high school!
