Student Council
The St. Barnabas Student Council is an organization through which students can become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school management and staff for the benefit of St. Barnabas School and its students.
Student Council promotes school spirit through its involvement in student activities and assemblies, helps raise funds for the school through an annual magazine drive, leads the student body in daily prayers, and manages the school’s recycling efforts. The organization also sponsors and participates in many parish- and community-wide activities and events, including a Thanksgiving Turkey Drive, Catholic Schools Week, the Lenten Operation Rice Bowl project, Hoops for Humanity and Earth Day.
In addition to developing leadership skills among its members, Student Council promotes the ideals of Christian living and good citizenship.
The St. Barnabas Student Council is comprised of one representative elected from each homeroom in grades 3 through 8 and a 15-member Board of Commissioners. Students in grades 6 through 8 who have a C average or higher and have attended St. Barnabas for at least two years are eligible to run for an office on the Board of Commissioners.
Meetings are held each week on Monday after school for approximately 45 minutes with some morning, lunch and extra after-school meetings needed at various times throughout the year.
