New Roman Missal
CHANGE IS IN THE AIR . . . . This past spring, Pope Benedict granted the final approval of the New Translation of the Third Edition of the Roman Missal. The implementation date for use of these new texts is set for the First Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011.
So, what is the Roman Missal and what does all this mean for us here at St. Barnabas?
The Roman Missal is the official collection of prayer texts and scripture readings for the celebration of Mass. Currently, it is divided into two books: The Lectionary for Mass which contains the scripture readings proclaimed at mass and the Sacramentary which con¬tains all the prayer texts prayed at mass. The Roman Missal will replace Sacramentary as the title of the forthcoming ritual book of prayer texts and will include a new English translation of the original Latin texts.
For us here at St. Barnabas, it means that we are going to see some changes in the text and prayers that we say at mass. It also means that there will be changes in the sung mass parts that we are used to singing. Click through this section of the website to stay informed about the changes.
