Scholarship for Catholic Secondary Education
Scholarships were instituted by the Women’s and Men’s Clubs in 2007 as a way to demonstrate the value our
parish places in its youth and in secondary Catholic education. Each year, 8th grade parishioners in the school and religious education program are invited to apply for scholarships to be used toward Catholic High School tuition. Applicants are asked to reflect on the St. Barnabas parish motto, "Family, Faith and Friendship," and the responses are used to pick the scholarship winners.
One boy and one girl are chosen as winners of each level of the competition. The scholarship prize originally was $1,000. As of 2009, awards are also provided in the amounts of $500 and $300.
The scholarship process is blind, with numbered applications submitted to the Assistant Principal and Director of Religious Education. The Scholarship Committee reviews all numbered applications and makes decisions about the top three applicants. The process typically takes place in the spring of each year.
