Ministry of Care

The Ministry of Care is an outreach service of St. Barnabas Parish. Volunteers bring the Eucharist to parishioners who are unable to attend Mass, whether they are homebound, or in hospitals or nursing homes. Bringing the Eucharist to someone unable to attend Mass reinforces his or her connection to the St. Barnabas Parish community, and helps communicate that the parish community is concerned about and is praying for him or her. Ministers also provide comfort and company through extended visits and by bringing reading materials including the bulletin and Sunday readings and reflections.

The Archdiocese of Chicago offers a training program on the Sacrament of the Eucharist and on the theology of suffering. The Archdiocese of Chicago requires all those wishing to be a part of this ministry to go through this training program and be mandated by the Office for Divine Worship of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

***If one of your family members is in the hospital or confined at home or in a nursing home, and would like Communion or a pastoral visit, please call the rectory at 773.779.1166.  Due to various privacy laws, doctors and staff can no longer notify the parish when a parishioner is hospitalized or confined.***
